The goal of my health/fitness program is to provide information in a way that influences students to take positive action regarding their own health. Not only do I want them to be physically healthy, I would like them to be socially and mentally healthy as well.
EALR 1.0 The student acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain an active life: Movement, physical fitness, and nutrition
o Demonstrate developmentally appropriate movement skills
o Understand safety procedures and rules in physical activities
o Understand and begin to apply the components of physical fitness:
§ Cardio-respiratory endurance
§ Muscular strength
§ Muscular endurance
§ Flexibility
§ Body composition
o Compose nutrition goals based on national dietary guidelines and individual activity needs
o Analyze the effects of activity, fitness, and nutrition practices
EALR 2.0 The student acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain an active life: Recognize patterns of growth and development, reduce health risks, and live safely
o Understand body systems and their functions
o Understand the changes that occur during puberty
o Know hereditary factors that affect growth development and health
o Analyze the benefits of maintaining healthy habits including
§ Exercise
§ Nutrition
§ Rest habits for lifelong health
o Understand the concepts and factors related to communicable diseases
o Understand the concepts and factors related to non-communicable diseases
o Understand the potential consequences of being sexually active
o Recognize types of abuse and risky situations
o Know emergency situations and appropriate responses
o Describe methods to prevent injury
o Understand stress management
o Understand issues related to legal and illegal drug use and abuse
EALR 3.0 The student analyzes and evaluates the impact of real-life influences on health
o Understand how environmental factors impact personal health
o Analyze health and fitness product information
o Analyze health information messages
o Identify health care needs and sources for services and products
o Integrate self-awareness/positive attitude and respect for others
o Apply effective social skills to avoid risky situations

EALR 4.0 The student effectively analyzes health and safety information to develop health and fitness plans based on life goals
